Summer Stage is the ultimate Theater Camp experience. Rising Stars began Summer Stage with the aim of creating the “Whole Artist” in a fun, innovative and professional environment. Summer Stage gives the opportunity for young artists to explore the world of theater everyday.
Shawn Renfro has been a teaching artist in New York City for 9 years now. He has taught in all five boroughs of the city. From Kindergarten in Staten Island to High school in the Bronx, elementary at the 92nd street Y and the eighteen to twenty year olds at Rikers Island. He has developed many teaching philosophies, such as violence prevention, decision-making, writing skills, and learning and applying Shakespeare’s text.
In 2008 he co-founded the Apothecary Theatre Company, which received a NT Times critics pick for their off-Broadway show entitled In God’s Hat. Shawn Graduated with a BFA in Acting from Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University, where he spent four months in London, England at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre learning all the ins and outs of William Shakespeare’s plays.
His directing credits include, Crazy, Sexy, Dead: An Evening of Don Nigro (Apothecary Theatre Co.), Animals (NY Fringe Festival), Dominica: The Big Fat Ho, Scarecrow, Closer, Crackwalker, Suspension, Quick and Dirty (A Subway Fantasy), Red Coat, Black Bird (Rutgers Theatre Co.),Specter, The Lion Tamer (Under St. Marks), The Doctor’s Duty (Love Creek Productions), Its Called the Sugar Plum (Theatre 1050), Apples to Apples (The Jameson Project) and Black Thang (JR Productions).
