The Camp J Story
Welcome to Camp J, where campers make memories and friendships that last a lifetime! Our camps encourage campers, from toddlers to teens, to explore and develop their interests in a fun, supportive community. Camp J campers become more independent, experience being part of a community, and learn to interact with their peers while participating in a variety of summer activities. Your child’s care and well-being are our priorities. Our staff members embody the friendly, energetic and caring environment that we create at Camp J, and our low staff-to-camper ratio (no more than 10 campers for each counselor) ensures a safe and successful summer.
General Camp is jam-packed with fun for campers of all ages! Campers are grouped based on grade and rotate between traditional camp activities with their peers and counselors. Activities change on a daily and weekly basis, and typically include arts and crafts, sports, music, archery, science, cooking, nature, drama, field games and WaterZone. Special events and field trips round out the summer to provide a comprehensive camp program where campers gain new experiences and build lasting friendships.
Sports Camp is our special sports elective program for campers seeking an active, athletic experience at camp. Coaches provide instruction and challenge campers through drills and scrimmages in a variety of sports such as basketball, hockey, baseball, kickball, soccer, volleyball, and more. Campers are grouped based on grade and skill level to ensure fair play and appropriate instruction. Sports Camp campers participate in daily events with General Camp such as flagpole and WaterZone, special event days and field trips.
A variety of specialty camp programs, from art to science to theater to sports, are also available throughout the summer. Come join us at Camp J this summer as we make new memories - we know they'll last a lifetime!
Eric's passion for summer camp started almost 20 years ago as a camper at Capital Camps, a JCC overnight camp. He holds degrees in non-profit management and Judaic studies, and has also worked at the JCCs in Richmond, Va. and Rockland County, N.Y. Eric serves as the JCC's program director and supervises the center's youth, cam, sports and wellness departments. Eric loves the unique sense of community that is created at camp, and helping to build the lasting bonds and friendships that Camp J is known for. Eric is an avid sports fan, and also enjoys cooking and gardening - activities he plans on helping with at camp this summer!
"Hosting Shlichim during the summers remains a wonderful experience for our family. Each year we meet dynamic and fascinating young Israelis with whom we maintain contact long after the summer has gone. Our kids are the greatest beneficiaries of the experience, finding in the Shlichim individuals who they come to regard as older siblings. It is an event we look forward to every year with good reason and plan on continuing for years to come."

Connecting with Israel
“Although it was so new, Israel brought upon me a familiar sense of belonging much like what I feel at Camp Chi every summer. The ability to be in a place where one feels so free and proud to be a Jew is a feeling that makes me so proud to be involved in my Jewish heritage.”
- Joshua Krawitz, 17, Camp Chi, JCC Chicago
