The J Camps Story

J Camps offer programs for children 2 years old through entering 9th grade. With a variety of camp offerings, J camps has something for everyone. Camp Chai, our traditional camp, is the finest day camp program in the city of Dallas. Camp Simchah, our preschool camp, offers the most complete program for young children. J camps are also proud of the many specialty camps that we have to offer: Gymnastics, Tennis, Sports and Theatre. In addition, our Teen Travel Camp gives teens a summer filled with daily trips and longer out of town trips. Known throughout the Dallas Metroplex as the place to be for the summer, J Camps are the place for children and their families to grow up, grow strong and grow together.

Our Camp Leadership

Director of Camping Services | Laura Seymour

Laura Seymour has served as Camp Director at the J for over 36 summers. Coming from an extensive background in day and overnight camping, Laura joined the J staff and has built our camping program to the highest level of quality. Supervising a full and part time staff, Laura is a master trainer with years of experience. During the year, Laura also serves as the J Jewish educator and brings this special knowledge and experience to all of our J camps. Laura has led staff to ACA accreditation once again this summer with a score of 100% in all categories.

Director of Early Childhood and Asst. Director of Camp | Tara Ohayon

Tara Sutker Ohayon, Camp Chai Assistant Director, has been a part of the JCC community since she was three years old. Tara grew up at our J camps, going on to work every summer while pursuing a degree in Special Education and then returning "home" to the J full time 15 years ago. Tara is also the Director of our Early Childhood Program and has been recognized as a gifted parent educator, worker with children and master trainer of staff. She knows the difference that camp can make in a child’s life first hand through her own JCC camp experiences and now through the eyes of her own four children. Tara is a true Camp Chai Lifer!

Why We Host Schlichim

"Hosting Shlichim during the summers remains a wonderful experience for our family. Each year we meet dynamic and fascinating young Israelis with whom we maintain contact long after the summer has gone. Our kids are the greatest beneficiaries of the experience, finding in the Shlichim individuals who they come to regard as older siblings. It is an event we look forward to every year with good reason and plan on continuing for years to come."
