The JCC Camp Chi Story

Summer at Camp Chi from JCC Camp Chi on Vimeo. For nearly 100 years, JCC Camp Chi has transformed children’s summers. We unplug campers from their daily lives and connect them to life-changing moments filled with a sense of community, kindness, respect. They also come home with enhanced Jewish/Israeli learning and connection. Choice-based programming and expansive facilities allow campers to discover their passions. Where else can you play soccer, sail a boat, fly down a zip line, record an original song, jump in a pool, and sing around a campfire all in one day? Campers see opportunities for adventure and fun, while we see them growing and gaining independence. JCC Camp Chi is located on 600 acres of majestic pines on beautiful Lake Blass. Our expansive setting and extensive variety of activities and specialties offer campers entering 2nd-11th grade unlimited opportunities, yet our 1 to 3 staff-to-camper ratio and small cabin groups ensure that campers receive personalized attention, support and encouragement every day. Chi’s facilities are among the finest in the country, with two heated pools, an indoor air-conditioned gym and recreation center, arts studio, equestrian center, low and high ropes course, climbing tower, radio and video studios, lake front activities and extensive watersports. Camp Chi sessions vary in length and include shorter sessions for younger campers and a 5- week adventure trip in the Pacific Northwest for teen campers. ACA accredited and named as one of the top 20 summer camps in the US (

Why We Host Schlichim

"Hosting Shlichim during the summers remains a wonderful experience for our family. Each year we meet dynamic and fascinating young Israelis with whom we maintain contact long after the summer has gone. Our kids are the greatest beneficiaries of the experience, finding in the Shlichim individuals who they come to regard as older siblings. It is an event we look forward to every year with good reason and plan on continuing for years to come."

- Soberman Family, The Jack and Pat Kay Centre Camp, Prosserman JCC

Connecting with Israel

“Although it was so new, Israel brought upon me a familiar sense of belonging much like what I feel at Camp Chi every summer. The ability to be in a place where one feels so free and proud to be a Jew is a feeling that makes me so proud to be involved in my Jewish heritage.” - Joshua Krawitz, 17, Camp Chi, JCC Chicago
