The JCC Day Camp of Jewish Federation of Greater Wilkes-Barre Story

Generations of families over 80 summers have enjoyed the Wyoming Valley JCC Camp. (We even have a Camper Alumni group that gets together every year.) The JCC camp is a gated, 40 acre property in the pristine Back Mountain of Northeastern Pennsylvania, just minutes from Harvey’s Lake. Transportation is offered to and from the camp. Our camp abounds with forest, meadow, sports fields, three swimming pools, a large indoor sports arena, performing arts center, tennis courts, outdoor and indoor basketball courts, full buffet cafeteria, nature trails, and so much more. A diverse and qualified staff from across the United States and Israel participate in an orientation program prior to the start of the season. A nurse is on-site during camp hours to handle any medical issues. All directors are over 21 years of age. There is front entrance security. Programs include transportation to and from the camp along with a full buffet lunch served daily for all campers. Before and after care is available to all families at the camp site and at the JCC.

Why We Host Schlichim

"Hosting Shlichim during the summers remains a wonderful experience for our family. Each year we meet dynamic and fascinating young Israelis with whom we maintain contact long after the summer has gone. Our kids are the greatest beneficiaries of the experience, finding in the Shlichim individuals who they come to regard as older siblings. It is an event we look forward to every year with good reason and plan on continuing for years to come."

- Soberman Family, The Jack and Pat Kay Centre Camp, Prosserman JCC

Connecting with Israel

“Although it was so new, Israel brought upon me a familiar sense of belonging much like what I feel at Camp Chi every summer. The ability to be in a place where one feels so free and proud to be a Jew is a feeling that makes me so proud to be involved in my Jewish heritage.” - Joshua Krawitz, 17, Camp Chi, JCC Chicago
