The Marks JCH Summer Day Camp Story

For 90 years, the Marks JCH Summer Day Camp has been a community that fosters positive relationships, encourages new experiences, and creates lasting friendships. Elementary age campers explore nature in our beautiful outdoor space at Henry Kaufmann Campgrounds in Staten Island where they maximize time spent outside, have instructional swimming lessons, and participate in a variety of recreational activities. Older campers enjoy exciting day and overnight trips throughout the tri-state area geared specifically for teenagers. The camp program is built around campers and their interests; and a wide range of athletic, creative, and social activities are offered in a Jewish environment. Yeladim (2-4 years old): Yeladim campers thrive in our nurturing environment. We focus on the social, emotional and physical growth of each camper. We offer daily swimming lessons and activities range from dramatic play to sports to an introduction to Israeli culture. Chalutzim: Juniors (Kindergarten-2nd Grade) & Seniors (3rd-4th Grade): We challenge Chalutzim campers with a wide range of athletic, creative, and community activities in a supportive environment, grounded in Jewish values. Counselors help campers strengthen social skills, cultivate self-esteem, and practice good sportsmanship. From archeology expeditions and Mad Science class to boating excursions and overnights, all activities are designed to ensure our campers will have a summer they’ll never forget. Tzofim (5th-6th Grade): The Tzofim program is designed to meet the changing social, emotional and recreational needs of the older camper. Campers select from a wide array of adventures and activities – including tennis, drama, softball, jewelry making and boating. In addition to participating in sports, arts and crafts and a talent show, children will also have the opportunity to go on overnights. Haverim (7th-9th Grade): Haverim provides a combination of outdoor adventure activities, Jewish cultural programming and old-fashioned camp fun. Participants travel to theme parks, museums and outdoor adventure activity centers in the New York metro area. Haverim campers have traveled to Club Getaway, Washington D. C., Boston, Virginia, Florida, Philadelphia and Lake George for their overnight experiences. We offer transportation throughout Brooklyn and Staten Island and also offer extended day options. Join us for an unforgettable, enriching, and adventure-filled summer experience!

Why We Host Schlichim

"Hosting Shlichim during the summers remains a wonderful experience for our family. Each year we meet dynamic and fascinating young Israelis with whom we maintain contact long after the summer has gone. Our kids are the greatest beneficiaries of the experience, finding in the Shlichim individuals who they come to regard as older siblings. It is an event we look forward to every year with good reason and plan on continuing for years to come."

- Soberman Family, The Jack and Pat Kay Centre Camp, Prosserman JCC

Connecting with Israel

“Although it was so new, Israel brought upon me a familiar sense of belonging much like what I feel at Camp Chi every summer. The ability to be in a place where one feels so free and proud to be a Jew is a feeling that makes me so proud to be involved in my Jewish heritage.” - Joshua Krawitz, 17, Camp Chi, JCC Chicago
