Israel Connection

“Hosting shlichim during the summers remains a wonderful experience for our family. Each year we meet dynamic and fascinating young Israelis with whom we maintain contact long after the summer has gone. Our kids are the greatest beneficiaries of the experience, finding in the shlichim individuals who they come to regard as older siblings.”
— Soberman Family, The Jack and Pat Kay Centre Camp
“Although it was so new, Israel brought upon me a familiar sense of belonging much like what I feel at Camp Chi every summer. The ability to be in a place where one feels so free and proud to be a Jew is a feeling that makes me so proud to be involved in my Jewish heritage.”

— Joshua K., camper, Camp Chi

Israeli Camp Staff (Shlichim)

As JCC Camps, we are committed to creating vibrant and engaged Jewish communities, and fostering a connection to Israel is an important piece of that work. In JCC camps, we do this by creating environments that explore the richness of Israeli society and by creating personal and meaningful people-to-people connections through shlichim, Israeli camp staff. Each summer over 300 Israelis spend their summers at JCC camps, bringing Israel to life for our campers, many of whom have never been to Israel before. At camp shlichim serve as counselors and specialists in areas such as Israeli culture, music, arts and crafts, sports, Hebrew, Israeli folk dance, nature and more!

In JCC day camps, families host shlichim for their time in the community, providing deeper connections and ties to Israel for the entire family. The impact of a shaliach, Israel staff member, extends beyond camp into an entire community. Day camp shlichim literally become part of the camp family by living with local host families and being a part of the whole JCC.

JCC Maccabi Israel®

JCC Maccabi Israel programs expose Jewish teens of all backgrounds to the beauty of Israel – its culture, history and people. We help teens understand our past to build our future, we create meaningful dialogue between Israeli and American teens, we challenge participants to become better and stronger people, and to truly understand the importance of community in Jewish life. Our trips are fun, safe and rewarding.
